A resident of Mundelein, IL, Greg Oldham revamps distressed homes as the president of GK Homes Inc. In his leisure time, Greg Oldham enjoys making the trip from Mundelein to root for the World Series Champion Chicago Cubs.

The Illinois team operates a number of charitable events, with the avowed mission of improving the lives of the surrounding community:

The Cubs Diamond Project seeks to imbue children and adults in less-developed neighborhoods with an appreciation of green spaces for baseball. Through its grant programs, Cubs Charities supports efforts to enhance the safety and quality of fields and training facilities. Their grants include funding for electronic scoreboards and uniforms for children.

Proceeds from sales of Cubs memorabilia have helped provide some $900,000 in improvements to facilities and equipment since 2014.

Starting in 2013, the team supported the Cubs Scholars program, which empowers inner-city high school students with mentorships and financial assistance for post-secondary advancement. Recipients get a four-year $20,000 scholarship on enrollment in a four-year college. They also participate in guidance programs for the high-school-to-college transition.

Promoting physical fitness, the Cubs on the Move program urges children to take part in healthful activity every day. The project involved some 1,000 children from four Chicago area schools in 2016. Cubs players and staff lead exercises and teach basic baseball skills. The team also started an online fitness curriculum for about one million children in Illinois and northwest Indiana.
